Sanctuary

Sanctuary was a great project that seems to have been a victim of the industry’s choice to fall in love with grunge in the late 80’s. I still shudder when I think about grunge. Their first album, Refuge Denied, was produced by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth in 1987, the same year they were signed by Epic Records. Unfortunately there’s just not a ton to say about this band, beyond the fact that it would have been nice to see a couple more releases before they crashed and burned…we’ll just have to be happy with the two smokin’ albums they did put out.

Chris Caffery

Chris Caffery is best known for the time he spend with hard rock/metal powerhouse Savatage, and after the last Savatage album (Poets & Madmen) he continued to work with the guys from ‘tage on the eclectic and very impressive Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In 2004 Chris put together this self titled solo project and has since been consistently producing high end metal under his own flag.
House of Insanity is the most recent release as of this writing, but his website hints that there’s another album currently in the works
After meeting Chris several times at meet-n-greets following Savatage shows, I can confidently tell you that he’s among the friendliest and most approachable guys who’s ever played guitar. He welcomes email from listeners, so if you’d like to give him a shout stop by his website or MySpace page (link below).

Circle II Circle

Circle II Circle is a perfect example of an outstanding band that you’re not likely to hear on the radio, and an ideal choice as Screaming Libertine’s first featured act. Since singer Zak Stevens brought the band on the scene back in 2003 they quickly became a sensation, earning top reviews from the outset. I personally expected nothing less from Zak. When he left Savatage in 2000 after the Wake of Magellan album it was due to a need to take care of some family business, and ‘tage fans everywhere were bummed. I hoped we’d see more from him at some point, and I was thrilled when I got my first chance to hear CIIC.
Their debut, Watching in Silence, was composed as a collaboration between Zak, Jon Oliva and Chris Caffery, so this project was locked and loaded by the time they walked in to start recording. With the second album, The Middle of Nowhere, the band proved instantly they could stand as a powerhouse in their own right, and they’ve just kept on jamming.
